Introduction:

Objectives:

Materials:


Activities:

1. Discuss the definitions (See Appendix 7) for the following terms the class.

  • Search Engine
  • Browser
  • Website
  • Query
  • URL
  • Domains (.com, .org, .edu, .us, .net)

2. Show the Search Engine Results Page (SERP), Appendix 8 and discuss the elements of a search query. Optionally, show the Matt Cutts video.

3. Have a brief discussion on using tabs in your web browser, and other browser tools. 4. Have students do the Vacation Preparation Station Search Activity.

Assessment Questions:

  • Do students understand the above terms related web search?
  • Do students understand the SERP and its components?
  • Are students beginning to use the SERP effectively?

Teacher Notes:

  • You may want to familiarize yourself with the above terms that will be discussed during the lesson .
  • It would potentially be effective to allow students to take the lead in defining the terms and explaining the search engine results page. You can follow that up with the information as given in the Appendix 7 and Appendix 8.
